Flanders commemorates the First World War
In the period from 2014 to 2018, the Government of Flanders will commemorate the Great War Centenary, because one hundred years later the dramatic events of 14-18 still seem to have a fundamental impact on our society. Moreover, the many victims of this gruesome war deserve a dignified commemoration.
That is why the Government of Flanders places the Great War Centenary commemoration in a broader context. Apart from war and peace, attention is devoted to commemoration and awareness-raising, and to the European idea.
This will allow us to make sense of our past and learn from it for the future.
